News from Great Yarmouth Baby Café

Antenatal breastfeeding workshops

We hold a monthly breastfeeding workshop for ante-natal mums- partners and friends welcome, during the baby Café.1pm- 3pm.  This offers an opportunity to ask questions, dispel the myths and get down to the nitty-gritty of breastfeeding skills, practicing with dolls.  Mums can also take home a free DVD From Bump to Breastfeeding. Please phone or email Libby for dates.

Happy 1st Birthday

Here is a collage of our birthday party today where helium balloons were a big attraction! We had a good turn out including several toddlers (still breastfed), mothers, friends, even grannies and Baby Buddies – peer supporters- who can be seen chatting and advising mums. Dawn from Buttonwick Bakery, a local organic bakery in Mautby village which supplies us with our very popular cakes each week, kindly donated a fabulous buffet with strawberries and shortbread to finish.

Now we are open

Tony Wright, MP for Great Yarmouth, launched our Baby Café at the Priory on May 16th 2006 demonstrating wholehearted support for the project. He cut an enormous organic chocolate cake which was devoured swiftly. Then he cut a purple ribbon to officially open the café. We had a full house with standing room only with lots of breastfeeding mums.

He also presented copies of the book, Bestfeeding,  to our seven newly qualified Baby Buddy peer supporters.

Since the launch the Café has been well supported with many mums coming week after week for social support. We now have a toddler’s play table with different toys each week provided by the toy library. Since questions arise each week about weaning we now have a health visitor on hand as well. We have a cake made by a country organic baker each week and fresh flowers on the table from the market.
