How to set up your own Baby Café

Our name and trade mark is "The Baby Café".   All genuine Baby Café drop-in centres which are registered with us are listed on this website, and you can expect all these to be run to the same high standards.  Any other drop-ins purporting to be Baby Café drop-ins are using the name without our authorisation.

In 2006 the Charitable Trust reviewed the licensing procedure. All existing Baby Café drop-ins will be incorporated into the new structure on renewal from January 2007. If you wish to set up a drop-in centre in your area using the Baby Café name this is how to go about it:

1.

Find out more Read the Frequently Asked Questions to find out more about running a Baby Café and the Charitable Trust. You will also find it useful to visit a Baby Café drop-in and read our annual reports.
2. Purchase the Baby Café Application Pack (see below) This contains information about drop-in centres, a DVD illustrating the Baby Café concept and an application form for registration.
3. Familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines Before applying it is essential that you are familiar and in agreement with our charitable objects and policies and guidelines.
4.  Secure funding Secure sufficient funding and find a suitable venue. When securing funding do consider how you plan to fund your drop-in over the long term, not just the first year.
5. Apply Complete the application form and send to the BCCT. Your application will be forwarded to the Trustees for consideration. They will give their approval once they are satisfied your facilitators are suitably qualified and that your Baby Café drop-in will be run to BCCT standards.
6. Licence agreement If your application is approved you will be sent a Licence Certificate and a copy of The Baby Café Handbook: all you need to know about setting up a Baby Café drop-in. This will give you the information you need to go ahead and set up your Baby Café drop-in. Your Licence Certificate is valid for one year and you are required to display it at your Baby Café venue.
7. Access resources We will send you the Baby Café artwork and set up your page on the website. We will also send you the password to enable you to access our comprehensive set of shared resources via the website. You will also receive ongoing support and updates from the Charitable Trust.
Preparation You will now need to make practical preparations to open your Baby Café drop-in. You may want to find volunteer helpers, order resources such as books, leaflets and posters and to resource items such as soft furnishings, mugs etc.
8.  Publicity You should also organise publicity and order posters and fliers from your local printer. Sample resources can be viewed in the Resource Bank of our website.
9. Launch Launch your Baby Café drop-in and send us any further information and photographs for your website page.
10. Compulsory annual feedback We need to know about your Baby Café in order to support you and uphold standards.  All Baby Café Lead Facilitators are under agreement to provide the Charitable Trust with detailed statistics and feedback at the beginning of every year.  We require this information in order to complete the charity's annual report. Be aware there is a penalty for late return of the feedback form. You should begin collecting data as soon as your Baby Café is open. Further information and a data collection tool is available on the website resources page.
